Memory or lack thereof #laryngectomee, #laryngectomy
When I first got home after my laryngectomy, my husband's mind was VERY off and confused and he couldn't answer the "what year is it", "who is president" questions. Three days after I got home from being in Texas for over a month, he was put in the hospital for diagnosis and treatment. At one point, he even forgot how to read and I was unable to speak, so we had no way to communicate. I went to visit but he didn't remember that I had been there.
His memory still isn't that great sometimes and after I've told him the same thing 3 times in 5 minutes, I shrug my shoulders and say to myself "okay, it's going to be that kind of a day." I'm the one that pays the bills and makes sure we both take our meds multiple times throughout each day. "In sickness and in health" is what I promised and as long as I can "In sickness and in health" it will be.
Whatever each day brings, we have come to a balance, I think, of living together with the means, physical and mental, that God has given us. Praying my memory doesn't go or we really WILL be sunk.
Blessings,
Mary
